大きな瞳のポーカーフェイス。
クマのような？でもちょっと違う。ヒト？それもなんか違う。
かずくまって一体どんなキャラクターなんでしょう？
実は「かずくま」は動物でもなく人間でもなく
男の子でも女の子でもなくジェンダーレス
「かずくま」という種族の生き物なのです。
なぜ「かずくま」っていうのでしょう？
その由来は、深い森の中の、さらに奥の方、
樹木や川が入り組んだ静かな場所（そういう場所を”隈（くま）”といいます）にある
小さな数字の国に生息していたから、とも、
また、クマに見た目が似ていることからついたとも言われています。
そんな風に、昔から山深い遠い小さな数字の世界で静かに暮らしていたかずくま達は
群れることを好まず、誰にも気兼ねなく自由気ままに生きていました。
お散歩好きで好奇心旺盛なかずくまは、道を見つけ川を見つけ海を見つけ
自分の好きな居場所を見つけ世界中に住むようになりました。
都会の街、静かな森、暖かい南の島、かずくまは色々な場所で色々な生き物や植物、小さな昆虫、大きな動物達とそれぞれに仲良く暮らしています。
ここにいるかずくまも自由気まま、とても自然体で好奇心の赴くまま。
生まれ故郷の数字の世界から旅を続け、出会ったねずみくんやちびくまと
いつの間にかなんとなく一緒に暮らしています。
居心地の良いお家を作り、ちびくまのためにぬいぐるみをたくさん作り、
お風呂に入ったり庭で遊んだり料理をしたり
ねずみくん達とマイペースな毎日を過ごしています
いつか他のかずくまとも出会ってみたいな、とちょっぴり思っているのでした。

ある時お散歩の途中で出会ったちびくま。かずくまの家まで付いてきました。
お腹が空いていたようなのでりんごをあげてみたら食べ、ベッドを用意したらそこで寝たので、
それ以来かずくまはちびくまのお世話をするようになりました。
